The default WooCommerce checkout asks for up to twelve pieces of information. Every field is a small effort, a small doubt and, on a phone, one more tap on a tiny keyboard. Most stores do not need all of them.

The fields, one by one

Digital products: ask almost nothing

If you sell downloads, services, courses or gift cards, a postal address is useless. Asking for it makes customers wonder why you need it. For a digital order, name, email and country are enough. Read our guide to a checkout for digital products.

Reassure where people decide

The order button is the moment of doubt. Three short lines right under it (secure payment, delivery and returns, a fast answer to questions) do more than a long text elsewhere. Keep them true and specific to your store.

Remove distractions

Menus, search and footer links at checkout are exits. Keep your logo so customers know where they are, and hide the rest on the checkout page.

Classic or block checkout

Since WooCommerce 8, the block checkout is the default. Code snippets that unset fields often only work on the classic checkout. Prefer settings that both checkouts respect, so the form and the order validation stay in sync.

In practice

Checkly does all of this from one settings page: Company, Apartment and Phone hidden, optional or required; digital orders with only name, email and country; order notes removed; distraction-free checkout and trust badges under the order button, on the classic and block checkout. Frequently asked questions

Can I remove the address fields in WooCommerce?

Yes for orders that do not need shipping, such as downloads and services. Keep them for products you ship.

Should the phone number be required?

Usually not. Make it optional unless your carrier needs it.

Does hiding fields work with the block checkout?

Yes, if you use settings the block checkout respects, such as those of Checkly, rather than snippets made for the classic checkout.
