A price tag is not always possible. Custom sizes, large quantities, engraving with a logo, delivery to organise: for these orders, customers expect a quote. A good quote process keeps them in your store instead of sending them to a competitor’s contact form.
When a quote is the right choice
- Made to order: furniture, signs, printed or engraved products.
- Volume: 50 mugs for a company, 30 boards for a restaurant.
- Services with variables: installation, events, catering.
- B2B: negotiated prices, payment terms.
Quote only or quote next to the price?
Hide the price only when it really depends on the request. For standard products, keep Add to cart and add a “Request a quote” button for large orders: individual customers buy immediately, professionals ask for a price.
What to ask in the request
- The products and quantities (from a quote list, not a free text).
- Name, email, company and phone.
- The deadline, the delivery address and any details.
Answer fast, and make paying easy
Reply within one business day. The best reply is a payable quote: the customer receives the prices and a link to pay online, without creating an account or typing anything again.
Follow up
No answer after three days? A short email (“Do you need anything else to decide?”) often closes the deal. Quotes are also a good moment to suggest a trade account to regular professional buyers.
The plugin
Quotely adds quote buttons (quote only, or next to Add to cart), a quote list with quantities and a request form. Requests arrive as orders with the status “Quote requested”: set your prices and send the quote; the customer pays online. Try it on the demo.
