WooCommerce asks for a name, an address and an email. Many stores need one more answer: a VAT number, a door code, a delivery date, a gift option.
Useful custom fields
- VAT number for business customers.
- Delivery instructions: door code, floor, a safe place.
- How did you hear about us? A drop-down list that tells you which channel works.
- Gift checkbox: no prices on the packing slip.
- Purchase order number for B2B orders.
Block or classic checkout
The new block checkout has its own way to add fields. A good plugin uses it, so the fields are validated and saved like the native ones, and still works with the classic checkout.
Where the answers go
A field is only useful if the answer is easy to find: in the order screen, in the emails and in the customer’s account.
Keep it short
Every field costs a little conversion. Make most of them optional and remove the fields you do not need.
Fieldly adds text, long text, drop-down and checkbox fields to the classic and block checkout and shows the answers in the order, emails and My account. See the fields on the demo.
