Black Friday: 30% off all plugins from 24 Nov · Join the list for early access →

A Black Friday offer does not have to be a huge percentage off everything. The best offer is one your customers understand instantly and that your margins can afford. Here are the most effective types of Black Friday discounts for WooCommerce stores, with their pros, cons and how to set them up.

1. Site-wide percentage off

“-25% on everything”. The simplest message, easy to communicate everywhere. In WooCommerce, use scheduled sale prices or a coupon applied automatically. Check that the discount does not push low-margin products below cost: you can exclude them.

2. Tiered discounts

“-10% from $50, -20% from $100”. Encourages bigger baskets. Communicate the tiers clearly on product pages and in the cart, otherwise customers miss them.

3. Free shipping

Unexpected shipping costs are one of the top reasons for cart abandonment. Free shipping during Black Friday, or a lower threshold, removes that objection. Show progress with a free shipping bar so customers know how close they are.

4. Bundles

Group complementary products at a better price than buying them separately. Bundles raise the average order value and move more products while protecting your margin better than deep discounts. They also make great gifts.

5. Gift with purchase

A free product above a certain amount. The perceived value is often higher than the cost to you, especially with a product customers would not have bought otherwise.

6. Early access for subscribers

Not a discount in itself, but a powerful offer: the same deal, a few days earlier, for people on your list. It builds your email list before the event and spreads orders over more days. See Black Friday email ideas.

7. Doorbusters

One or two products at an exceptional price, in limited quantity, to attract attention. Be transparent about stock and show it honestly; when they sell out, offer a back in stock alert or point to alternatives.

How to choose

Make the offer visible everywhere

Whatever you choose, repeat the same message on every page with an announcement bar, show the end date with a real countdown, and make sure the discount appears clearly on product pages and in the cart. Avoid fake “was” prices: the original price should be the real price you charged before the sale.

Calculate before you discount

Before choosing a percentage, list your products with their cost, shipping and payment fees. A 30% discount on a product with a 40% margin leaves very little profit. For each product or category, decide the maximum discount you can afford. Sometimes the answer is a lower percentage combined with free shipping or a bundle, which customers perceive as generous but costs you less.

Digital products and services

If you sell digital products, plugins, courses or services, your marginal cost is low, so a higher percentage can make sense. The risk is training customers to wait for discounts. A good balance: a strong offer once a year, early access for subscribers, and normal prices the rest of the year with clear value.

Setting up offers in WooCommerce

Test every offer with a real order before launch, and check that prices go back to normal when the sale ends. More ideas to grow the basket in how to increase average order value.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best Black Friday discount?

The one your customers understand instantly and your margins can afford. A clear site-wide percentage or free shipping are the easiest to communicate.

Can I combine several offers?

Yes, but keep one headline offer. Too many rules confuse customers.

Are reference prices regulated?

In many countries, the crossed-out price must be a price you really charged before the sale. Check your local rules.
