Many online orders are gifts, especially from November to December, around Mother’s Day and for birthdays. A gift wrap option makes the buyer’s life easier, can raise the average order value and makes your store memorable when the parcel is opened.

Free or paid?

Some stores make it free above a certain amount, or free during December only.

Where to offer it

In the cart and at checkout, with one checkbox: “Add gift wrap (+3 €)”. A short description helps: “Wrapped with care, price tags removed.” Do not hide it in a product page option that customers miss.

The gift message

An optional field at checkout lets the buyer write a few words for the recipient. Limit the length (for example 200 characters) so it fits on a card. Make sure the message appears where your team prepares orders: in the order screen and in the order email.

Block checkout compatibility

Recent WooCommerce stores use the Cart and Checkout blocks. Many older gift plugins only work with the classic checkout. Check compatibility before choosing a solution.

Packing workflow

  1. Gift wrap appears as a line in the order: impossible to miss.
  2. Remove price tags and invoices from the parcel, or print a gift receipt.
  3. Write or print the gift message on a card.
  4. Prepare wrapping materials in advance for December.

Promote it

Mention gift wrapping on product pages, in your gift guide, and in an announcement bar during the holidays, together with your Christmas shipping deadlines.

Tool

Giftly adds a gift wrap option (your price, or free) and a gift message field to the cart and checkout, classic and block, and shows the message in orders and emails. Try it on the demo.

Frequently asked questions

Should gift wrapping be charged per item or per order?

Per order is simpler for customers and for packing; per item suits stores selling large items separately wrapped.

Where does the gift message appear?

In the order screen, the order emails and the confirmation page, depending on the plugin.

Does it work with the block checkout?

Check before choosing a plugin; many older solutions only support the classic checkout.
